I think my number one tip is to let your writerly voice shine! I can’t believe that I’ve gotten away with the amount of humor I have in them. Showing personality seems to help
You submit up to 20 pages. They ask that it be a completed piece if possible—a completed short story, essay, chapter, etc. but it's not a hard and fast rule. But you do NOT read someone's entire novel or collection. There are 10 people in each group, so I think reading a full manuscript would be way too much for that format.

Oh, one other question: at Tin House do the students in your group read full manuscripts from every other student or just excerpts for feedback?
