Dealing With Rejection: How to cope on an emotional, practical, and spiritual level
Tips for saying "Yes" to your work when the world has said, "NO"
The second mini-salon with Sarah Kokernot of Your Wild and Radiant Mind was an intimate but super useful conversation on rejection. There’s no way around it—if you’re a writer, you’re going to have to deal with rejection all.the.time. Exposure therapy has made the pain of it bearable, but I’ve really had to find tools to not take every “no” as an evaluation of my entire self-worth as a human.
If you missed it, you can check out our recording below. Sarah and I share our biggest rejection stories, offer tips on how to let go of projects, talk about where we find emotional support, and give suggestions on what the hell to do with your writing after a devastating blow. We also tackle a subscriber question: How do you keep going when you’re anticipating a rejection already?
Our next mini-salon in on Thursday, May 8 at 12pm CT/1pm ET. The topic? “Why Even Make This: Finding spiritual and practical meaning in the creative process.” Paid subscribers can submit questions ahead of time and will have access to the recording. If you are a free subscriber, the mini-salon is offered as a pay-what-you-can event with a $15 suggested fee (but we welcome all amounts). You can sign up here.
See you next month!
