This year, I’m starting a new paid subscriber benefit: weekly, virtual co-working sessions. The idea came to me after I noticed that I got a lot more writing done if I used the power of peer pressure to sit my ass in the chair and write. At first, I thought I needed to be in the physical presence of others to do this but I soon realized that leaving my apartment was another insurmountable effort that dissuaded me from writing. It’s why I have yet to go to any of the writing sessions a friend of mine hosts in Williamsburg. The G train? In this economy????? As for the writing sessions other friends hosted via Zoom, those were harder to avoid. Plus, I want to know who is behind my subscriber stats and I know many of you are not in NY. Some are close friends and it would be great to see your faces more often too!
How does it work? Every Tuesday at 9 am ET for the remainder of January we will convene in my Zoom link to write/work for 40 minutes. Why forty? Because I don’t have the budget to upgrade my Zoom account right now LMAO. Also, I kind of like the number. Quick and dirty, without the panic-inducing probabilities of expansive time. We’ll use the first 5 minutes to check, 30 minutes to write/work, and then 5 minutes to recap or regroup. That’s it!
I’ll share prompts for those who need it but you can use the time to work on whatever you want. Not a writer? No worries! There’s probably a task you’re avoiding that you can get done in 40 minutes—updating your website, preparing a proposal, emails, SO MANY EMAILS. This isn’t high school, I don’t care if you’re sticking to the assignment or not. The point is to knock out anything on your to-do list bright and early.
